In October 2024, 16 living Christmas trees were planted in areas throughout the District, marking the first step in future-proofing living Community Christmas Trees throughout the areas served by Pontypool Community Council. From a vast “wish list” of potential locations, sites were painstakingly whittled down to the final 16 locations based on:
In December, the trees were lit using solar powered lights and many Councillors led their communities in tree lighting ceremonies to celebrate the new festive additions to their local green spaces. In some areas the trees are now part of the local communities’ seasonal celebrations, from St David’s Day to Easter.
To ensure our trees remain healthy and happy, we have a yearly management plan in place. Since phase 1 of the project, further trees have been planted to ensure we reach more of the community. We now have 17 in total.
